Days 17-20 of NaPoWriMo

Okay, folks, I've been tardy to the party with these poems so far this week. So I'm making it up by giving six poems to cover four days. How's that for a bargain? Wait, don't answer that.

Take care, y'all.

Namaste.

Opening Volley

Words are the song of life,
Words grant shape to the shapeless.
Within these pages are many words.
Tales from the head.
Be careful as you journey here
That my ghosts do not haunt you.

Dreamtime, take 1

I’m staring across a mossy field,
The sun is shining.
It’s warm and summerlike.
And there I sit.
For I don’t know if or when this may
end in a nightmare.

Fear #1

Shed I a tear,
For I do fear,
By hand I may end
Before I can mend.

A Sight Unseen

A flower of life and love,
A gift to another’s heart.
Ah, sweet love,
To ever embrace your warm coat.
And yet I know not
Who my love is to be.
So I must love her
As a sight unseen.

The Maker

tools I make,
songs I sing,
what for,
for heaven’s sake?
for the joy they bring.

Dreamtime, take 2

I’m staring across a mossy field,
The sun is shining.
It’s warm and summerlike.
And there I sit.
For I don’t know if or why this may
end in a nightmare.

Omnium Gatherum #83: A Mule And 40 Acres Of My Own: On Wish Fulfillment, Wakanda Forever, Woman Tragic Yet Triumphant, and Man Absent

Howdy, folks! Welcome once again to the Omnium Gatherum. This one is going to be a blast from the past in the sense that I don’t have any kind of notes or mind map arranging how this column is going to go. For me, this is back to the old days of this column where I just wrote some hot take and let the chips fall where they may. And I resurrected the old banner title I used when I talked about issues of race in this space. I guess that means it’s time for old Papa Doc to put his Black Card on display (pay no attention to the demerits on the back of the card please!) and dive right into the latest mess happening in pop culture. Speaking of messes, look at how Marvel Studios dropped the trailer for the long awaited sequel to Black Panther during Comic-Con Weekend. All eyes were eagerly awaiting this trailer, to see how the studio and production moved on after the passing of Chadwick Boseman, the gentleman who brought T’Challa, king of Wakanda and the masked hero known as Black Panth

Omnium Gatherum #82: What Do You Write About When The World Is Running Down And You’re Trying To Make The Best Of What’s Still Around?

Scene: An old abandoned theater, roughly the size of the Orpheum in downtown Los Angeles, California. A stereotypical middle aged Black nerd stands on the stage, with a small script in his shaking hands. [Taps microphone while staring out at an empty auditorium.] Howdy, folks, and welcome once again to… [Looks up at a very, very dusty banner hanging over the stage.] … the Omnium Gatherum. [Checks name tag on red shirt, laughs at the irony.] I’m your host Vince Moore. What’s happening? [Pauses to allow for laughter.] Seriously, folks, and I will stop with the obvious and oblique stand up comedy and other performance references here, it’s interesting to give this column a starting up like an old car sitting in the driveway gathering dust and rust. It’s interesting and frightening and somewhat relaxing to put thoughts to keyboard once again, thoughts that are meant to go public that is. I don’t know if I’ll do more than one of these things. My personal life has taken center stage (there I

Day 28 of NaPoWriMo

Three more days to go. Sunlight And Moonlight golden rays bring lazy days and good feelings. silver lights bring romantic nights and good times. On Practicing Buddhism Of life before I can only say Fading into constant ashes day to day, Then I heard the phrase Nam Myoho Renge Kyo And my life had something to praise. For causes I did make another time The reward was to know this time The Mystic Law and all it unfolds Within and without my life lived bold. So I chant in times good and bad, When I am happy, when I am sad or mad, To achieve enlightenment this time around, And to set up the same chance next time around. ‘Tis not easy, this Buddhist life, It isn’t always free from any strife. The struggle is part of the game, The drama that troubles this spacetime frame. For the rest of my life, I will say Nam Myoho Renge Kyo Every night and every day. With no regrets, this I vow, From this one until another Now.
