Days 29 and 30 of NaPoWriMo

The Grand Finale. Five poems for two days.

A Summer’s Day, Part 1

The sounds of the city echo and resonate,
Telling of a useless busyness, a rush to nowhere.
And the wind, the glorious wind
Blows into the sails of my mind,
Leading to paths known and unseen.

A Summer’s Day, Part 2

A pool of still water reflects
The deepness of the world’s soul,
Full of the dreams of all,
Empty from the strains of the sky.
A pool of still water projects
The quiet of my own soul,
Peaceful within my world,
Hectic from the world outside.

A Summer’s Day, Part 3

The sun shines down upon the just and unjust,
Sharing its light with all.
Making no judgments of the kind of men
Who bask in its warmth.
Yet the eyes that use this summer light to see
Judge all that falls within view,
Seeing without fully seeing
The souls beneath the flesh
Nor understanding
That karma and kismet tend to all.

A Fragrance

bittersweetness fills the air,
wiping away all my care,
strips my soul and lays it bare
to all the beauty that’s there.
where does the glory come?
from somewhere under the sun,
as a new day’s just begun,
and what will we do when it’s gone.

In Dreams

At night as I sleep in the quiet calm,
My mind has to keep my dreams as a balm,
Soothing away all the troubles of the day
So that I don’t fall under trouble’s sway.
At night I find and hold just a little peace.
And I rest my hand as my problems cease.
I drift and float towards another shore,
Aboard my boat made from my hopes and more.
I live for a time in this dream place
Until the chime makes my heart race.
Then once again out of bed I must rise
To, at the world, shout under clear, blue skies.

Day 26 of NaPoWriMo

And to send my first NaPoWriMo out in style, I'll do two poems a day. This was fun. Across Lands And Barriers Across lands and barriers do I reach, For someone to know. Someone who my open soul can show, A place upon my beach. It seems my heart has passed away To a beautiful one, With a life afire like the bright sun, And a smile for play. A pen to paper scribes many lines, For her, a love, A princess whose friendship is a dove, As truly is mine. So, an ode to she and I, the desire Across many lands, Reaches for bonds and joins our hands, Our hearts afire. Time And Space Across time and space there are many worlds, Many other homes where life whirls and twirls. Different in form and shape and size, Different to many different eyes. Yet all the same are the core, down in the soul, In the essence of life which is beyond our control. Which why two or more souls can touch and find Each other, finding their lives ever entertwined, Bound together in ways not easily explained, Bou...

Omnium Gatherum #85: Killing Them With Kindness, For Their Own Good

Howdy, folks! Welcome once again to the Omnium Gatherum. Or, if you’re new here, welcome to the Omnium Gatherum. This time around I thought I would take you folks on a different kind of journey with a different kind of outsider viewpoint. Right up until the time When Corona-Chan Came To Town, I had been attending classes at one of my local community colleges in English and Journalism, mostly to stretch those formal learning and realization muscles again. Along the way, naturally, I had to write papers on various topics, depending on the class. All of this is to preface this column which will take on a quasi-academic tone as it explores the topic of Ozymandias from Watchmen and whether his actions were or could be justified as good and/or heroic and by what standard.  Let us begin. One of the most classic yet modern time travel story plots is a traveler or travelers going back in time to kill Hitler before he gets going. Many people would easily say yes to taking such an action—in t...
